Newbie here (actually, a random forum surfer; I don't settle in many places for long.)
The other day I was driving a Christian friend of mine home from work. She was horrified to learn I wasn't a Christian, yet I keep a cross hanging from my rearview mirror. I explained that it belonged to my grandmother, and it reminds me that there are some things that no one should do in a car *cough* as well as, to me, helping to protect me as I zip along Atlanta's dangerous highways.

I'm still puzzled over her reactions. Is it so wrong to wish to have an object that belonged to my grandmother with me at all times? Grandma was a devout Christian, and I still awed at the power of her believe even after she passed on, although we did not share the same faith.

Please enlighten me if you wish ^_^

Hi,

I sounds like you are very fortunate to have such a caring Christian friend.

Im sure that your friend loves You and wants to spend Eternity with You and with Jesus in Heaven.

You should probable ask the Christian what exactly was on their mind.

Remember symbols and props are not an intrinsic part of Christianity. Christianity is Based on a Spiritual Relationship with the Living God.

Your friend might be concerned that you are focusing on an object rather than on God. But Im sure your friend has no objection to having an item that reminds you of your Grandmother.

God Bless You,

David

I would imagine your friend thought it odd you would promote a symbol of something you do not belive in, as one might if they saw a Wiccan symbol hanging from my rearview mirror that's all.

Sounds liek they see it as counter to your own ideology and hterefore inconsistent.
I agree that they most likely mean nothing negative, they are just shocked at such homogenized philosphies as those that are exclusive.

I used to keep a rosary on mine for similiar reasosn when Iw as lost and ant-God.

And in Atlantas traffic ( I know) you most likely NEED IT!!!!!

Memories individual or collective are stored in objects just as much as pictures or maybe more so. In this case it has significant meaning for you and is appropriate.

It is your friend that I worry about, do not sit too close, as aside from your personal meaning, it is a symbol of death and torture.

Hello Cat! WAs going to give u a post,
but read D Brown's post to you and thta
was about what I would say. Your friend
may have thought you were thinking of
the cross as a sort of 'good luck charm'
which a lot of people do. Actually the
cross itself has no power. But I know
people have it just to remind them of
the great sacrifice Jesus made when He
gave his life on a cross. The power was
in the blood that Jesus shed on the cross.
That shedding of blood provided remission
of our sins. Without that, we could not
have been forgiven of our sins and born
again.
I certainly understand you wanted something
near you from someone you loved. :)

I would like to invite you to consider
coming to know Jesus. He is God. He came
in the flesh, as you know , and carried
our sins for us. The scripture tells us
that He so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten son, so that whosoever
will would not perish, but would have
life everlasting.

Knowing Jesus is very easy to do. It is
so magnificient to actually know God.
While it may seem impossible, it is so
possible--and its for whosoever wants to!
It's for everyone who chooses to. No sin
is too great for Him to carry. He paid
the price for us. He says He will never
turn anyone away who comes to Him. This
wonderful salvation was provided for you.

If you believe in your heart that Jesus
died and arose from the grave , then just
say so to God. If you believe IN YOUR
HEART, and say with your mouth that Jesus
IS LOrd, then you will be born again and
your new life will begin.

That's all that salvation is. We don't have
to try to become perfect before we know God.
He will help us when we need it. This will
start you on a brand new life. Old things
will pass away and all things become new,
as you will be a new creation in Jesus.

I pray that you will take advantage of this
offer from God. There isn't anything as
great in the whole world.

You are loved by Him. He is your creator,
and now wants to also be your Savior and
Lord. This is a simple transaction. You
give yourself to God and you have all
of Him.
